Local AI: an assistant without the cloud
With most AI services every question ends up on someone else’s servers. With Talkie the AI runs on your own computer.
What “local” means for Talkie
The language model (Qwen3, via Ollama), speech recognition (Whisper) and the voice run on your PC. Memory, notes and settings are stored in a folder on your computer. We receive none of it.
When Talkie still goes online
The conversation itself needs no internet. Only when you use a feature that needs current data – weather, news, web search, train connections – does Talkie send that single request to the respective service. You can switch off each service in Settings › Privacy.
The price of local
Local AI needs a capable PC: about 18 GB of disk space, ideally an NVIDIA graphics card with 12 GB. In return there are no ongoing cloud costs – Talkie is also available as a one-time purchase.
Frequently asked questions
Is a local AI as good as ChatGPT?
For everyday tasks, questions and controlling your PC a local model works well. For very long texts or hard specialist questions large cloud models are stronger – but they see everything you ask.
Does Talkie work offline?
Conversations, timers, notes, flashcards and controlling your PC do. Weather, news and web search need the internet. Talkie checks the licence online now and then and keeps working for up to 30 days without a connection.
